Setting Up Online Art Gallery

There are few people who have benefited more from the high-tech boom  than artists. As a painter and sketch artist, the Internet has done amazing things for me. I specialize primarily in sci fi art, so it is always been hard for me to get recognition. Every once in awhile, I can get commissions from some author or another to do the cover of their book, but there are plenty of lean times in between. That is why using an online art gallery has helped me so much. Now I can finally get the exposure that I want.

The type of art I make is popular almost everywhere except in the art world. People think that science fiction is dumb. Whether it is literature, art, or movies, it is always viewed as low. My online art gallery allows me to get past the snobs that control the art world and directly to the consumer. My online prints are within the range of many people, unlike original one-of-a-kind paintings. Using the art gallery online, I can show enough to tease people, but not enough so that they can print my work out themselves and avoid having to buy from me. Since I started setting up an online art gallery, my sales have gone through the roof. I am actually making a living doing art. That is something that I never even dreamed of before!

Of course, setting up online art galleries easy. It took me minutes to learn. The difficult thing is getting exposure. You have to make sure that your website gets good ranking, but that is not enough. An online art gallery needs credibility. If people are going to spend serious money on a paintings, they need to know that you are respected. Having an online art gallery that you run yourself can be alright, but it is much better to have one that is linked to other people's art galleries. If you're part of a scene or movement, people are much  more likely to buy from your online art gallery. It is a paradox, but one that anyone who is involved in art needs to be aware of. People want both originality and group membership. Your online art gallery has to have works that look unique, yet that are similar enough to what other people are doing to be respected. Only then will you make the sales that you want.
